26th-29th June This class draws from various techniques such as Horton Technique as well as release techniques. The warm up aims to awaken the dancer’s body awareness through alignment and touches on the idea of presence and mindfulness, progressing from simple to more complex exercises leading to dynamic sequences through space, playing between set movement and improvisation. Class aims to find ways in which dance technique can be influenced by somatic practices without losing its rigor and precision and sense of emotional connectedness. Bio: Maria da Luz Ghoumrassi is a London based teacher, dancer and choreographer. She regularly teaches for Greenwich Dance, Step into Dance and Trinity Laban. A graduate from Laban, Maria da Luz has worked in the original cast of The Lion King as ensemble and dance-captain and for companies such as Kokuma Dance Theatre, Jeanette Brooks and Garth Fagan. She has choreographed for BBC3 The Mighty Bush and choreographed and performed solo and group work at venues across London. In 2004, she received the Trailblazers Fellowship and was short-listed for The Place Prize. Maria was selected for Dance UK’s Dance Teaching Mentorship 2015/16 working with Kerry Nicholls supported by Sonia Rafferty/Trinity Laban's Dance Science Dep. She was awarded a ‘Dancers Career Development’ Retraining Grant to further her professional development, in She is a Spare Tyre Artist Associate working as a mentor and choreographer working with artists with learning disabilities. Maria da Luz has recently worked with Jacky Lansley as Resident artist at DRS and is currently researching her new choreographic project addressing motherhood, infertility and identity.
