In my teaching I’m interested in supporting dancers in deeply understanding how they move, what are the roots of their patterns and how to manipulate them.
We will start with a short Feldenkrais class that questions how specific movement patterns work anatomically in order to find efficient ways to move. This exploration will expand into space with larger and more complex movements. Improvisational strategies will create unpredictable dances.
Simonetta is an Italian dance artist based in London. Her work is informed by more than 30 years of dancing, teaching and choreographing. She has choreographed for dance companies, student pieces, large scale opera, improvised performance, site specific and movement direction for theatre. Simonetta teaches at Trinity Laban, London Contemporary Dance School and Goldsmiths University and has been a guest teacher in more than 10 countries.
I will investigate ritualistic behavior and dance from the traditional sources of Tarantism, a trance ritual based in music and dance from southern Italy. I'm also researching how somatics (Feldenkrais) influences choreographic process from creation to performance, and how this could create different relationships between choreographer, performers and audience.DUO OFFER: 1 MORNING YOGA (9:15-10:15am) + 1 PRO-DANCE TRAINING (10:30-12pm) for £12
