Candlelight Yin Yoga
Amanda Walker  |  Fri 6:45 p.m.-7:45 p.m.  |  £15 drop in

Yin yoga uses long-held relaxed floor postures to stretch and stimulate the deep, connective tissues of the body.

It is a quiet, yet profound practice and derives from theories contained in Chinese medicine and Taoism. These theories have direct parallels with Indian yoga traditions. Its aim is to create a free-flow of fluid energy (‘chi’ or, in Indian yoga tradition, ‘prana’) through the body.

The body’s deep tissues carry most of our fluid systems and by stimulating them and creating spaciousness around them with sustained yoga postures we improve the function of all our fundamental systems. Deep and sustained stretching through joints and tissues improves the body’s circulation, respiration, detoxification and the mobility and ‘youthfulness’ of the joints.

The practice also focuses on ‘stillness’ in holding poses to achieve these physical benefits but also to allow the mind to ease and tune-in with deeper awareness to the subtle shifts of energy experienced as the body tissues release. This can be a very rewarding and energizing process!

Amanda will guide you through the holding of the postures – using breathing techniques to sustain stillness, using any necessary cushions/blankets to support the poses and advising on options to ensure the practice suits every individual student. In this way the yin class is suitable for any level of practitioner.

Practising yin yoga is also a perfect complement to the practice of other more dynamic (or yang) forms of yoga.

£25 for two consecutive classes, one of which is a Yin Yoga class.
