Laura Doehler facilitates Contact Improvisation

BEING BOTH, where following and leading merge There are tools to integrate listening which refine attention also towards the roles we are, propose and receive for one another. We can choose those roles which offer clarity in togetherness and perhaps this is a starting point but increasingly by ways of perception and understanding we can align what we think of as opposites as interchangeable partners. We will work with rocking, the duality of push and release, in trios wherein following and leading becomes circular through a triangular resolution and throughout the class with breath to connect our own centre to our partners, inviting spaciousness and alignment by dialoguing release and engagement. This class proposes a ‘being with’, which is a choice of contact improvisation that aims to integrate trust through connectedness. It is the kind of contact that furthers harmony and fluidity of movement. It can open the possibility to blur the boundaries between self and other and expands our understanding of togetherness while simultaneously integrating contact skills through predominantly explorative work that will make us arrive in constellations and patterns we can then reflect on.

Picking up on impermanence Laura/ Exit Map choses improvisation to understand and manifest change. Recent work of Exit Map circle around social and environmental connectivity: The Shared Practice, the Free to Move Movement, and Trilogy TwerkaSonata aim to shed boundaries of self and other. Building on collective ownership they are defined by processes, the product being ourselves changing. Laura Doehler, MA (Performance Making), teaches movement (release, CI, improvisation, composition and movement analysis) in HE at NCCA in London. H2dance, Tara’ Darquin, Exit Map Collective are artists she is currently working with.
